Rudy Ramli files suit

JAKARTA (JP): Former Bank Bali president Rudy Ramli lodged on Thursday a complaint against the chief integration officer of Standard Chartered Bank (SCB) and two Indonesian Banking Restructuring Agency (IBRA) executives for tarnishing his name in media reports, the city police chief of detectives said.

Col. Alex Bambang Riatmodjo said the complaint was made in connection to newspaper reports on Aug. 18 this year quoting SCB chief integration officer Douglas K. Beckett and IBRA executives Glenn. S. Yusuf and Farid Haryanto.

Alex quoted the three men as saying in the reports that Rudy had quietly sold some US$130 million of the bank's loaned assets, which could increase the bank's recapitalization cost.

"Rudy feels it's all a lie, and that the accusations were baseless," he said.

Rudy's lawyer, Bob R.E. Nasution, earlier said the only reason Rudy was approaching the city police and not the National Police Headquarters was to "show Glenn and Farid, what they were really worth".

"Well, they (Farid and Glenn) deserve to be handled by police subprecinct officers. But city police should do."

Farid had earlier said that the loaned assets sold by Rudy, included non-performing loans, which were supposed to be transferred to the agency later in return for government recapitalization funds injected into the bank. (ylt)
