Rudy beats national player in c'ship
SEMARANG (JP): Former member of the national badminton center, Ignatius Rudy, was the surprising winner over national second stringer Yudi Suprayogi in the men's senior singles final of the 1999 national badminton championship at Jatidiri Stadium here on Sunday night.
The Jakarta player's success earned him plaudits from the Badminton Association of Indonesia (PBSI) executive chairman Karsono and PBSI training director Christian Hadinata.
"Rudy played amazingly. He defeated two members of the badminton center, Yudi, and Johan Hadikusuma in the semifinal. If the national players lost to a Jakarta player, what have the coaches done at the center? It's a slap in our face," Karsono said.
Christian recommended that PBSI invite Rudy to rejoin the national center. "Rudy should get priority to attend the center. He has good prospects."
Rudy won 15-10, 7-15, 15-13.
In the other duels between players from the badminton center, Ninik Masrikah beat Yuli Marfuah 13-10, 11-2 in the women's senior singles final. Vita Mariana/Monas S. overcame Rosy/Novita 17-14, 5-15, 15-5 for the women's double title, while Santosa/ Enny won the mixed doubles title in a 12-15, 15-9, 15-9 victory over Imam/Vita. (har)
