RSCM told to clean up act

Members of the House of Representatives have urged the management of the state-run Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital (RSCM) to further improve its service to the public, including the unfriendly attitudes of its personnel.

The House members was commenting to a report from Rakum, an employee of the City Sanitation Office who complained that he has been passed off by hospital officials although he had gone and back forth for four days in search of a bed for his ailing brother.

The House members also asked the RSCM management to properly manage the street vendors operating around the hospital as well as the relatives of the patients who sleep on the floors of the corridor.

RSCM is one of the country's referral hospitals.

Some 85 percent of its beds are provided to low-income patients.

During a hearing at the House, RSCM director M. Ahmad Djojosugito admitted that, besides the shoddy service, many parts of the building, facilities and equipment have been used for between five to 10 years.(bsr)
