RSCM staff protest management

JAKARTA: More than 200 employees of Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital in Central Jakarta staged a protest in front of the emergency ward for about an hour on Wednesday morning, disrupting its operation.

"The hospital service was slightly interrupted ... the rally ended at about 10 a.m. because the hospital managers had responded to (staff) demands, although there has yet to be an official decision (made)," hospital spokesman Djajadi told The Jakarta Post.

The protesting employees said they were representing all units at the hospital.

They demanded a change to policies imposed by the hospital management, including remuneration. According to the employees, management had promised to restructure the remuneration system starting Oct. 1, 2003.

"But we have yet to see this happen," Agus Priyatna of the Intensive Care Unit said. -- JP
