In the midst of rapid digitalisation in the financial services sector, the risk of technology-based financial crimes has also increased. The public is now faced with various fraud methods, ranging from illegal online loans to bogus investments that are becoming increasingly prevalent.

The Financial Services Authority (OJK) has recorded various significant developments in efforts to eradicate illegal financial activities throughout 2026.

The Executive Head of the Financial Services Business Actors’ Behaviour Supervision, Education, and Consumer Protection of OJK, Dicky Kartikoyono, revealed that supervision has been strengthened massively, both through direct enforcement and education for the public.

“Since starting operations in November 2024 until 29 April 2026, the Indonesia Anti-Scam Centre (IASC) has served as a platform to support the national commitment to eradicating scams. The number of accounts already blocked is 485,758, with a total of victims’ funds successfully saved amounting to Rp614.3 billion,” he stated during the RDKB press conference held online on Tuesday, 5 May 2026.

In addition to saving public funds, OJK has also taken action against illegal entities operating in the digital space. “Satgas PASTI immediately follows up on these complaints by stopping 951 illegal online loan entities and 3 illegal investment offers on various websites and applications that have the potential to harm the public,” he explained.

Efforts to prevent this do not stop there, with actions taken to cut off the communication channels of criminals. “Satgas PASTI also monitors fraud reports submitted by the public to IASC and coordinates with relevant ministries/institutions, primarily the Ministry of Communication and Digital Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia, to block 106,477 phone numbers related to scams.”

From 1 January to the end of April 2026, OJK received around 177,244 service requests through the Consumer Protection Portal, including 25,392 complaints. Of the total, 14,232 reports were related to illegal entities, with complaints about illegal online loans dominating at 11,753 cases. In addition, there were 2,379 reports of illegal investments and 100 reports of illegal pawns.

On the other hand, OJK continues to intensify financial education programmes as a preventive measure. A total of 1,252 education activities have been conducted, reaching more than 7.29 million participants across Indonesia.

Digital education platforms such as Sikapi Uangmu and the Financial Education LMS also contribute to increasing public understanding of safe and wise financial management. These efforts are deemed important to strengthen public resilience against various fraud methods that continue to evolve with technological advancements.
