Rp3b given to temporary teachers

BOGOR: The Bogor municipal administration has provided Rp 3 billion (US$300,000) as additional income for elementary school teachers who do not have a permanent contract.

Head of Bogor's Education Agency, Didih Suwardi, was quoted by Antara as saying on Monday that each teacher would receive a monthly allowance of Rp 200,000. However, he was uncertain when the teachers would receive the money.

"The reason for the additional income was because the teachers only receive a small monthly salary. How can they teach well if they still have to think of earning additional income," he said.

Currently, there are 1,800 temporary elementary school teachers. Each of them have only received between Rp 50,000 and Rp 100,000 a month. -- JP
