RP envoy bomber trial resumes

JAKARTA: Prosecutor Suharto urged on Monday the Central Jakarta District Court to resume the trial of Abdul Jabar, the main suspect in the bombing of the Philippine ambassador's residence and two churches in Jakarta in 2000.

In the hearing, the prosecutor told the court that the indictment read out in the previous hearing against Jabar was in line with the Criminal Code, and therefore the court should resume the trial.

Presiding Judge Pramudana adjourned the trial until June 10.

In the indictment, Suharto accused the defendant, who turned himself in last January, of having planted a car bomb at the ambassador's official residence in Central Jakarta on Aug. 1, 2000.

The blast killed security guard Sofyan Hendrawan, housemaid Suhantin, and injured 21 others, including Ambassador Leonides T. Caday. --JP
