Rp 900m budgeted for elections

YOGYAKARTA: The Yogyakarta municipality has allocated Rp 900 million to prepare ballot booths and education the public about the presidential election on July 5.

The head of the Yogyakarta General Elections Commission (KPUD), Miftachul Alfin, said each of the polling places in the municipality would receive Rp 250,000 for the election.

"This is less than what was allocated for the legislative election, which was Rp 425,000 each, because the presidential election is supposed to be simpler so it won't require as much money," Alfin said.

He also said the municipal election committee had proposed a budget of Rp 1.6 billion for the upcoming presidential election. However, only Rp 900 million was approved for the first round of the presidential election.

"The remaining Rp 700 million ... will be allocated for the second round of the presidential election," Alfin said. --JP
