Rp 6m salary officially OK'd

BEKASI: Bekasi City Council Committee confirmed on Friday that
each councillor would receive a Rp 6 million (US$652) monthly
salary, amid a previous demand that they be paid double that.

Acting council chairman Achmad Saichu said the decision was
made in line with Ministry of Home Affairs circular No. 161/2004,
which stipulates that each councillor will get Rp 6 million
including allowances.

Councillor Tumai of the Indonesian Democratic Party of
Struggle said the councillors could accept the decision.

Previously, councillors demanded that they received Rp 12
million in monthly salary, the same as members of the 1999-2004
