Rp 40,000 robbery leaves two hurt

JAKARTA (JP): An armed gang broke into a house on Jl. SMU in Cipayung, East Jakarta, early on Friday morning and made off with Rp 40,000 (about US$5) after wounding the house owner and his daughter.

The robbers assaulted the victims, identified as Jaya and his daughter Tati, with machetes after they fought back. The incident took place at around 3 a.m.

Both are being treated at Pasar Rebo hospital.

The gang of seven men reportedly arrived at the house in a dark-colored Kijang van and rammed the front door of Jaya's house.

Jaya and Tati quickly left their rooms to check on the noise. They were confronted by two of the robbers brandishing machetes.

Jaya was injured in the head and neck; Tati sustained a back wound.

After the assault, the robbers reportedly fled. No valuables were reported missing except for the cash. (emf)
