Rp 1m needs each day to clean graffiti

BOGOR: The sanitary and parks agency disburses Rp 1 million (US$111) per day to clean the walls of historical sites that are repeatedly vandalized, an official of the agency said on Thursday.

"The places include Bogor Palace, Bogor Botanical Gardens, Kujang Statue park, the fence of Bogor City Council compound, as well as trees," Deni Insmanto told The Jakarta Post.

He said most of the graffitists were school students, some from out of town.

"We patrol every day, but we rarely catch them in the act -- maybe they do it in the evening," he said. --JP
