Rp 1m fake note found in Bogor

BOGOR (JP): Residents at the BPPT housing complex on Jl. Pajajaran in Central Bogor handed over three men, along with bundles of fake bank notes worth Rp 1 billion, to the Bogor City Police headquarters in the early hours of Sunday, according to witnesses.

But the Bogor police have not been willing to comment on the case.

"Just ask the Bogor City Police chief tomorrow (Monday) as we're all busy here today preparing for the visit of RI 1," an officer said, referring to President Abdurrahman Wahid.

The finding of the counterfeit money by the locals took place after one of their neighbors, Sentot -- who was engaged in a heated debate with his visiting brother, Tisna -- asked the residents to examine the car of Tisna's friends parked in front of Sentot's house.

When they examined the car, a CJ-7 jeep with the license plate number B 2491 WM, the locals found three cardboard boxes full of the fake money in the form of Rp 50,000 banknotes, along with a cell phone, a walkie-talkie, a machete, one military uniform and two military berets.

Afterwards they brought Tisna and his two accomplices to police headquarters along with all the evidence. (21/09)
