Rp 18m taken in armed robbery

JAKARTA (JP): South Jakarta Police detectives are pursuing four men who robbed a 27-year-old man of Rp 18 million at Kebayoran Lama subdistrict on Thursday morning.

South Jakarta Police chief Lt. Col. Satrya Harry Prasetya said his men had not been able to identify the four criminals who rode on two Yamaha RX King motorcycles. They were armed with a pistol and a sharp weapon.

"The criminals just ran off with the money," Satrya told The Jakarta Post.

He said the victim, Iwan Setiawan, frequently withdrew money from Citibank's Pondok Indah branch in South Jakarta.

"Iwan's habits had been carefully studied by the robbers. He was just returning from the bank with Rp 18 million in his bag," he said.

Iwan told reporters that at about 1:15 p.m., two motorcycles approached him, just as he was opening the door to the shop of computer servicing company PT Teknikatama Sarana Grandika, on Jl. Ciputat Raya.

"Two guys got off one motorcycle. While one of them took out a pistol, which looked like an FN, the other took out a sharp- looking weapon. They took my black bag, which contained the money," Iwan said. (ylt)
