Rp 17.38b sought to fix median strips

JAKARTA: The Jakarta Parks Agency has requested Rp 17.38 billion to rebuild the median strips affected by the development of new busway projects, but the city planning agency has decided to only allocate it Rp 12.38 billion out of the 2006 city budget.

"We need to redesign and redo the landscaping along the median strips and replant the trees felled as part of the new busway projects," said the agency's director, Sarwo Handhayani.

Handhayani was referring to the nearly-completed second and third busway corridors stretching from Pulogadung in East Jakarta to Harmoni in Central Jakarta and from Harmoni to Kalideres in West Jakarta, as well as four other busway projects slated to be opened simultaneously next year.

Next year, the administration will start developing new corridors connecting Pulogadung and Hotel Indonesia in Central Jakarta, Kampung Melayu in East Jakarta and Ancol in North Jakarta, Warung Jati/Ragunan in South Jakarta and Imam Bonjol in Central Jakarta, and Kampung Melayu and Kampung Rambutan in East Jakarta. -- JP
