Rp 15b housing project canceled
JAYAPURA, Irian Jaya: The Irian Jaya office of the Ministry of Transmigration has canceled the construction of two housing complexes worth Rp 15 billion (US$4.14 million) due to the currency crisis.
Kamso, the acting chief of the ministry's office, made the announcement, Antara reported Saturday.
He said the authorities originally planned to build the housing complexes, located in Bonggo, for 2,500 migrants from the provinces of Java, Bali, West and East Nusa Tenggara.
Kamso said 7,000 people had moved to the Bonggo subdistrict since it was declared a transmigration site in 1992. (imn)
