Rp 10b fund questioned

JAKARTA (JP): City Council questioned on Thursday the use of Rp 10 billion (US$1.1 million) which was allocated for 10 hectares of land for a low-cost apartment building in Marunda, North Jakarta.

Councillor Muhayar of Council Commission D for public works, development and environmental affairs said the council found that the funds, which were taken from the 2001 city budget, was used to build another apartment building in Penjaringan, also in North Jakarta.

"We see irregularities here. The administration, especially the North Jakarta Mayoralty, should explain this," Muhayar of the Justice Party said.

He said the council was suspicious because the city administration had built a low-cost apartment building in the Penjaringan area.

He revealed that the current budget had also allocated Rp 4.5 billion to extend the Penjaringan apartment building.

He said the current budget allocated Rp 62 billion for the development of some low-cost apartments, including in Petamburan, Central Jakarta, Cawang, East Jakarta and Marunda. (jun)
