Rp 100b allocated for water works

JAKARTA: The central government has allocated Rp 100 billion (US$11.76 million) to repair water infrastructure in Greater Jakarta.

The project, which will start this year, is held by the Development Project for the Ciliwung and Cisadane Rivers (PIPWSC), a task force under the authority of the Ministry of Settlement and Regional Infrastructure.

Top man of the task force Wahyu Hartomo said in a statement made available on Wednesday that the team would construct the East Flood Canal, several flood gates and coastal barriers, as well as developing a water management system in the capital.

The projects include dredging the Cengkareng Drain and Mookervart River, rehabilitation of a section of the Ciliwung riverbank in Katulampa, Bogor, dredging and reconstruction of the West Flood Canal, Bekasi River and Ancol sluice gate, as well as rehabilitation of the Tanjungan River.

He said that the next stage in construction of the East Flood Canal would cost Rp 77.8 billion. Previous construction work cost the state budget Rp 79.9 billion. -- JP
