Roy Morgan research enters RI

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

The country's market research industry now has a new player with the entry of PT Roy Morgan Research starting on Thursday.

Having started conducting surveys in the country early last year, Roy Morgan Research in Indonesia now has 21 clients, including Bank Mandiri, Bintang Toedjoe, Indosat, Telkomsel, Ultrajaya, Gramedia and ANTeve, according to a release received by The Jakarta Post.

Roy Morgan regional director Debnath Guharoy said the firm would launch its first nationwide consumer database on Thursday with an annual sample of 24,000 respondents.

"As we have been interviewing respondents since October, the results are intriguing," he said.

For instance, the first survey of 6,000 respondents showed that Indonesians trust the current government much more than the previous one, believe that dengue fever and cancer are both real health concerns, that homosexuality is wrong, and that 97 percent of the population (14 years and older) believe that religion should be taught in schools.

"What differentiates us from other firms is that these national averages can be dissected by age, gender, income, geography and religious background," he said.
