Ronaldo staying put, says Inter chief

Brazil's World Cup winner Ronaldo will stay with Inter Milan despite his stated desire to leave the Italian club, Inter president Massimo Moratti said on Tuesday.

Speaking after Inter's 2-0 win over Sporting Lisbon booked them into the Champions League group stage, Moratti told Italian television the protracted talks with Real Madrid over a possible move by the twice World Player of the Year were closed.

"As far as Ronaldo is concerned the situation is quite simple -- he is and will be part of Inter," said Moratti.

"Ronnie is staying with us -- the issue is already closed. He is an intelligent lad, but he needs to get his feet back on the ground again.

"Public opinion in Milan is as important as that in Madrid," added Moratti, referring to the damage done to Ronaldo's relationship with Inter fans by his comments that he wanted to leave.

"We want the best for him and what has happened is no longer of importance. We want him with us," said Moratti.

But the club's coach Hector Cuper admitted for the first time there was a problem between him and the Brazilian -- though he would be glad to see Ronaldo back as a full member of the squad.

"If Ronaldo stays I would have no problem. I have no problem with Ronaldo -- it is him who has a problem with me," said Cuper, who later said the two may have a meeting to clear the air.

Talks between Inter and Real over a possible transfer broke down last week after the Italians rejected an offer from the Spanish club.
