Rolex calls entries to enterprise awards

The world class watchmaker Rolex calls entries from Indonesia and also the rest of the world for its 2006 Rolex Award -- the 30th anniversary of the international biennial initiative.

Enterprising individuals of any age, nationality or background are invited to apply to this philanthropic program that was initially kicked off in 1976 to support groundbreaking projects in science and medicine, technology and innovation, exploration and discovery, the environment and cultural heritage.

Five winners will be honored at a ceremony in Singapore in October 2006. Each of them will receive US$100,000, a specially inscribe gold chronometer and international publicity for their projects.

In a statement made available for The Jakarta Post, head of the Rolex Awards for Enterprise Rebecca Irvin said, "Given Asia's remarkable spirit of enterprise and increasing economic growth, it is appropriate that the 12th award ceremony in the program's 30-year history will be held in Southeast Asia."

"In the past, over 70 percent of the entries have come from Europe and America. This year we look forward to a significant pick up in entries from countries such as Indonesia to honor work from this region that may have been left undiscovered."

Closing deadline for Asia applicants will be on May 31, 2005.

For prospective contestants, they can fill in the official application form available on the website, www.rolexawards.com and submit their project online, or download the form, and once completed it, post it to the Rolex Awards for Enterprise Secretariat at PO Box 1311, 1211 Geneva 26, Switzerland.--JP
