Robbery suspect arrested

JAKARTA: Police from Depok precinct arrested the alleged mastermind behind a robbery at a house on Jl. Krakatau Blok J, Limo, Depok on Sunday evening, just hours after the incident took place, thanks to information provided by a witness, the Depok Police Chief said on Monday.

Adj. Sr. Comr. Amhar Azeth said the suspect, named Tomo, 30, who is a public minivan driver on the Cinere-Pondok Labu route, was arrested after the police received information from a housemaid working at a home near the crime scene.

Tomo had planned the robbery for a month, Amhar said.

According to a police report, Tomo and three other suspects entered the house owned by Rahardjo Bunyamin, 33, who was on leave in Tasikmalaya, West Java, by threatening housemaids Wakijem and Khammet with a gun and machetes.

After forcing towels into the housemaids' mouths, the robbers locked them in a bathroom. The robbers stole a blue BMW car with registration number B-909-UI, a silver Daihatsu Taruna car, a 14- inch TV set, a tape deck, and an oven.

"We expect to arrest one of the three other suspects who are still at large today," Amhar said.--JP
