Robbers use new ploy

Through this column, we would like to warn housewives -- and servants in particular -- of "civilized" robbers who politely come and take your prized possessions away. A favorite ploy they use nowadays to gain entry into a house is the story that they have been sent by the absent homeowner to pick up some equipment in exchange for a new and better one.

If it's just the servant at home, the robbers usually say they are good friends of the working homeowners, to soothe servants' suspicions.

Recently, we were victims of this new trend. A corpulent man, who had fair skin color and a missing front tooth, arrived in a car, plate number B 1785 VH (probably a fake number). He also used a hand phone, although it may have been fake.

He took away our television set, after making a fake call on the mobile phone, to us.

The incident took place in our neighborhood, Perumahan Taman Depok Permai. A similar incident took place at Villa Pertiwi, Depok I, by a man of the same description.

It is a new way of robbing people and citizens should be warned.
