Robbers steal Rp 250m in cash

KUTA, Bali: A daylight robbery took place only about 100 meters away from a police station in Bali's prime tourist area of Kuta on Thursday, causing Rp 250 million (US$27,000) in losses to a money changer firm.

An employee of the company, 28-year-old Dewa Made Astawa, suffered gunshot wounds to his right thigh for resisting the robbery attempt.

"We found two shells and two projectiles, apparently from a handgun, at the site of incident. We are still trying to determine the type of ammunition and the gun used in this crime," Kuta police chief Adj. Comr. M. Anwar said.

The robbery was committed by two people, Anwar said.

Astawa was rushed to Sanglah Central Hospital in Denpasar for further intensive treatment. --JP
