Robbers steal 2 kg of gold jewelry

TANGERANG: A group of 12 robbers made off with two kilograms of gold jewelry from Sumber Rezeki gold store in a market here on Monday morning after immobilizing three security guards in the market.

The men arrived at Swadaya market in Sangiang Jaya subdistrict of Tangerang municipality in two Kijang minivans at around 3 a.m. One of them immediately pulled out a gun and tied up the three guards as well as three locals who were there, according to Jatiuwung Police chief Adj. Comr. Helfy Assegaf.

They took the six men into a Kijang van, while the others entered the market and broke into the gold store. They later dropped the six people in a dark, quiet street about five kilometers from the market.

Nana Suherna, the store owner, said he suffered more than Rp 100 million in losses. He said that he usually stored all his jewelry in a safe before closing the store each afternoon.

"I was in a hurry on Sunday afternoon so that I didn't have enough time and just left some of the jewelry outside the safe," he said regretfully.--JP
