Robbers sentenced to lengthy jail terms

BOGOR: Two of five robbers who shot and killed a police officer and a security guard during a botched robbery near Bogor last year have been sentenced to lengthy jail terms.

The Bogor District Court sentenced on Wednesday Antono Dwi Hendaryanto to 15-years jail and Tugiyanto to 14-years jail after the pair were found guilty of charges stemming from the PT Great River Garments robbery.

The prison sentences were lighter than the prosecutor's demand of 20-year jail terms.

On Monday, the court sentenced Yustinus Lelatobur and Deden Sunarya to 13-years jail and Adi Setio Sukamto to three-years jail for their parts in the robbery.

Presiding judge Hamala B. Simatupang said the defendants had claimed the lives of police officer, Brig. Sudiran, and security officer, Edi Supriatna, who were shot dead during the robbery on Jl. Raya Bogor Simpang Pomad, Kedunghalang Ciluar subdistrict, Bogor regency, on Aug. 31, 2001. -- JP
