Robbers kill one, injure another

BOGOR (JP): An armed gang shot dead one local and injured another in Kampung Cipayung Girang of Megamendung district in the early hours on Sunday.

Eman Sulaeman, 27, a local who unwittingly intercepted the robbers and got shot in the left leg told the media at Bogor PMI Hospital later in the day that the incident took place at around 5 a.m. when he was about to pray.

"My relative, Falah, 20, and myself were about to bathe and pray at the house of our neighbor, Engking Dayah.

"When we got there, the lights where off and we saw an unidentified man standing close to the house. He followed us to the bathroom. He acted suspiciously. Falah ended up screaming 'thief' and the noise woke up the neighbors," Eman said.

The gang members then opened fired on Falah and Engking but missed, he said.

"Another man suddenly popped up next to me and opened fire. That was about when Lukman, Engking's son, came out of the house. He got shot in the abdomen.

"He died en route to the hospital. I got shot when I tried to chase the gang's Kijang van," Eman said.

It appears the gang intended to break into the garage next to Engking's house. Several cars belonging to local residents and weekend guests from Jakarta who were staying in nearby villas were parked in the garage, Eman added.

The case is being handled by Cisarua Police. (21/edt)
