Robbers flee with Rp 6m in goods

JAKARTA (JP): Three men broke into a house in South Jakarta yesterday, tied up the owner and made off with a 29-inch television set, a laser disc player and a satellite TV receiver.

A sergeant at the South Jakarta police precinct said the men drove a blue Kijang van to the house on Jl. Pedurenan, in Pasar Minggu, at 5:30 a.m.

"Two men forced open the door with a crowbar while the other waited in the van," he said.

The house owner, Dewi Suryanti, 36, who had just completed her dawn prayers, heard noises and went to investigate, he said.

He said one of the burglars threatened Dewi with a sickle and the other tied her up with a rope.

The officer said the men left the house after stealing goods worth Rp 6 million (US$2,500).

Neighbors untied Dewi and accompanied her to a police station, he said. (jun)
