Robber shot to death

JAKARTA (JP): The East Jakarta police detectives on Friday shot dead an alleged member of a three-member robber gang as he was trying to resist the police arrest.

Tumpak Marbun, 30, was arrested on Friday morning at his house in Bekasi. He and his colleagues, Komando Panjaitan and Saut Sihombing, had been searched by the police for their alleged roles in 14 robbery cases.

Marbun then took the police to Cawang Bawah area in East Jakarta, where Panjaitan and Sihombing live.

Upon arriving at the location, the police saw Panjaitan and Sihombing were about to commit another robbery. The police tried to arrest the two, but they managed to leave the location on a public van after threatening and forcing the driver to get out of the car.

Marbun tried to escape by kicking one of the police detectives, but was shot in his stomach. His body was sent to the Cipto Mangunkusumo General Hospital's morgue. (06)
