Robber shoots man to death

BOGOR (JP): One of seven robbers armed with guns and machetes shot dead a man at a house in Cibodas before making away with a Feroza jeep, video camera, jewelry and a TV set early Monday, eyewitnesses said.

Sujani, 43, was shot at about 2 a.m. while spending the night in the house of Ukad Supadma, a prominent neighborhood figure and a village chief candidate.

Eyewitnesses said the robbers woke up Sujani and another man sleeping on Ukad's veranda as soon as they arrived. One of them fatally shot Sujani in the chest when he attempted to stop the robbers from entering the house.

The criminals, who did not wear masks, also beat up Sujani's companion, Sudjai, tying his hands and feet and gagging his mouth, Antara reported.

The robbers then forced their way into Ukad's house, gathered the 13 residents into one room at gunpoint and demanded Ukad show them where he kept his money.

Ukad told them he did not have any cash in the house and instead handed them the key to his jeep. The robbers used the car to carry the other items they collected as loot.

Before they fled, the robbers doused the room with kerosene and threatened to set it on fire if the residents dared to shout for help, an eyewitness said. (pan)
