Roads around State Palace closed

Motorists are advised to avoid the area around the State Palace on Aug. 17, because the roads near the palace will be closed from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. for Independence Day celebrations.

The roads scheduled to be closed are Jl. Veteran, Jl. Veteran I, Jl. Veteran II, Jl. Veteran III, the eastern part of Jl. Majapahit, Jl. Medan Merdeka Barat, Jl. Medan Merdeka Utara, Jl. Museum and Jl. Silang Monas.

The head of the media affairs division at City Hall, Jorlan Sinaga, said alternative routes were available to avoid the area around the palace.

Motorists heading from Kota to Jl. Sudirman in South Jakarta are advised to take Jl. Sukardjo Wiryopranoto, Jl. Juanda, Jl. Pos, Jl. Lapangan Banteng Utara, Jl. Lapangan Banteng Barat, Jl. Pejambon, Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur, Jl. Prapatan (Tugu Tani), Jl. Menteng Raya or Jl. Cut Mutiah.

Traffic headed in the opposite direction will be rerouted from Jl. Sudirman to Jl. Mas Mansyur, Jl. Fachrudin, Jl. Cideng Barat and Jl. Suryo Pranoto. Motorists can also take Jl. Fachrudin to Jl. Abdul Muis, Jl. Mojopahit and through to Jl. Hayam Wuruk.

Those traveling from Jl. Thamrin toward Kota can take Jl. Budi Kemuliaan to Jl. Abdul Muis, the western part of Jl. Majapahit to Jl. Gajah Mada.

Motorists heading from the direction of Jl. Menteng Raya to Kota are advised to take Jl. Medan Merdeka Timur to Jl. Perwira, Jl. Lapangan Banteng Barat, Jl. Pos and Jl. Dr. Sutomo.
