Road victim's body thrown onto garbage site

BEKASI (JP): A Koasi public transportation minivan plying the Bekasi-Bantar Gebang route allegedly hit a pedestrian on Tuesday night on Jl Raya Narogong, Bojong Menteng, Bekasi, then transported the dying victim to a nearby garbage disposal site.

Suman, 38, a local resident who saw the accident said that the victim, Sandi, was crossing the road when the Koasi minivan was passing by at high speed and hit him hard throwing his body several meters.

"A group of us, local people, rushed to help the victim, while some others ran after the van," he told The Jakarta Post.

He said the driver and his assistant, who looked scared, got out of the van and requested residents not to attack them and vowed to immediately take the dying victim to hospital.

"Since the driver and his assistant promised to be responsible for the victim's medical treatment we believed them, we let them take the victim alone without holding his identity," he regretted.

"Maybe the victim died on the way to hospital and the driver and his assistant panicked. When they saw the trash disposal site, they decided to throw the victim's body onto it and then escaped," he added.

He said an ojek (motorcycle taxi) driver, Maryoto, who was accidentally passing by, saw the two men lifting a body out of the van and throwing it onto the garbage site.

The suspicious ojek driver then rushed to report them to Bekasi Police, he said.

Bekasi Police chief Sr. Comr. Djoko Susilo said that he had ordered several officers to find and catch the missing Koasi driver and his assistant, though as of Wednesday evening, they had yet to find the suspects. (01)
