RI's first air cargo service launched

The Jakarta Post, Jakarta

Courier company RPX Group launched on Tuesday its airline cargo service, called RPX Airlines, which is the first scheduled cargo airline service in the country.

Using Boeing 737-200 aircraft with capacities of 15 tons, RPX Airlines will fly between three major Indonesian exporting/importing and manufacturing cities, Jakarta, Balikpapan, Surabaya, and Singapore, five days a week between Wednesday and Tuesday of the following week.

The service will depart from Jakarta for Singapore in the morning and return to Jakarta before midday to continue on to Balikpapan, Surabaya and Singapore and back again to Jakarta late in the evening.

The inaugural flight will take place on Oct. 17, Harsha E. Joesoef, the company's CEO, said.

He said the company planned to expand the service to take in other cities, including Batam, Denpasar, Manado, Medan and Ujung Pandang.

"Our plan for the future is to expand the fleet by up to eight aircraft within the next five years," Harsha said.

According to Harsha, RPX Airlines is supported by two groups of professional and trained experts: one group manages flight operations and the other group manages the cargo aspects of the business, which includes representatives and marketing offices in Balikpapan, Jakarta, Singapore and Surabaya.

The RPX Group is a group of companies owned fully by Indonesian investors and managed by Indonesian professionals and technical advisors. The company employs more than 800 people and operates a Boeing 737 aircraft and more than 120 vehicles.
