Riot suspect sent to jail

TASIKMALAYA, West Java: Abdul Muis bin Makun, 23, was
sentenced to two years in prison Tuesday for instigating a riot
here last December, Antara reported yesterday.

Chief Judge Zaharuddin Yusuf said Abdul Muis was guilty of
subversion, namely perpetrating the riot in Tasikmalaya.

Four people died during the riot on Dec. 26 with material
losses estimated to have reached Rp 85 billion.

The prosecutor had demanded four years' imprisonment.

Abdul Muis and his lawyers appealed the verdict.

In an earlier trial, another suspect in the riot case, Mimih
Haeruman, was sentenced to 10 years in prison.

The trial of Asep Ilyas and Agustiana, the other suspects, are
continuing. (swe)
