Ringing in the New Year

Trumpet-blowing and confetti-filled bashes marked the coming of New Year for people across the world.

Tight security, terrorist threats and deadly bombings could not stop people from greeting the New Year with customary celebrations.

Cheering and laughing, people partied the night away, either with loved ones or newfound friends. Others chose to mark the moment more solemnly, offering simple prayers for peace.

Whether festive or more low key, the celebrations were all in the same spirit, and hope, that 2004 will be a better, more peaceful and prosperous year for all.
