Rights commission urges solution
SURABAYA: A team from the National Commission on Human Rights urged the city administration to resolve the land row in Tubanan district once and for all along the lines of an agreement it helped broker last year.
The team was disappointed that the private developer, PT Darmo Permai, had not yet paid the compensation for the land it had acquired from the Tubanan people, even though houses had already been built and occupied.
The row, which dates back to 1973, appeared to have been resolved after all the parties agreed to a settlement that was mediated by the commission in 1995. (15)
