Rights body wants new office

DILI, East Timor: The National Commission on Human Rights is seeking to move its representative office in East Timor, currently located near a military facility, to new premises, a report said Thursday.

"I have suggested to the (East Timor) governor to provide us with another location for the representative office of the commission in East Timor, which would be far from a military facility," commission member Clementino dos Reis Amaral was quoted by Antara as saying.

The commission's representative office in Dili, in operation for 10 months, is located across the road from the Dili military headquarters and many have said its position discouraged people visiting the office.

The head of the commission's Dili office, Alex Refialy, said only 30 complaints had been received since it opened in July last year. (33/swe)
