Riau takes over Social Ministry

PEKANBARU, Riau: The assets of the now liquidated Ministry of Social Affairs in Riau were officially handed over on Monday to the provincial administration.

These included all the material inventory of the ministry and also their personnel, Antara reported.

Provincial Secretary Tengku Lukman Jaafar during the signing ceremony to mark the handover expressed hope that employees of the ministry would continue to focus their attention on social matters in the province.

He remarked that records at the provincial social affairs office indicate that there are nearly 10,000 isolated families, 110 poor families, over 44,900 street children and 6,100 prostitutes in the province that need the attention and assistance of the administration.
