Riau Islands province police established

PEKANBARU, Riau: The Riau Islands Police headquarters was
officially opened on Monday and regional offices would start
being established soon in the new province, police say.

The headquarters would provide regular services to the public
and become fully operational next year once regional outposts
were established, Riau Police chief Brig. Gen. Damanhuri said.

Earlier, National Police chief Gen. Da'i Bachtiar appointed
Sr. Comr. Anton Bachrul Alam as Riau Islands Police chief.

Riau Islands was established as a new province after the
government separated it from Riau last year. -- JP
