Riau governor elected as Golkar leader

PEKANBARU: Riau Governor HM Rusli Zainal was elected as the province's Golkar party leader on Sunday, ousting his main competitor and former leader of the party, Ramlan Zas, who is also Rokan Hilir regent.

After the election, Rusli disclosed that his main agenda would be consolidating the party.

"The party's administration needs to be strengthened. When that happens, I promise to accommodate all ideas and set aside differences ... " Rusli said. The party's lineup was installed the same night. -- JP
