RI wins gold in physics olympiad
BANGKOK: Indonesia has won six gold medals and two honorable
mentions in the fourth Asian Physics Olympiad (APhO) in Bangkok,
Thailand, APhO president and head of the Indonesian delegation
Yohanes Surya said on Monday.
Held between April 20 to April 29, 2003, at Mahidol
University, the Indonesian delegation was one of 10 Asian country
delegations to participate in this year's Olympiad. The others
were Australia, Chinese Taipei, Israel, Kyrgyzstan, Laos,
Pakistan, the Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam.
Indonesia sent eight high school students to the Olympiad, the
premier physics competition for Asian countries, and competed
against 64 competitors.
APhO is modeled after the International Physics Olympiad with
a similar level of difficulty.
Competitors representing each Asian country are drawn from
pre-university students. -- JP
