RI wins 1 silver, 2 bronzes at AUKO

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia grabbed a silver medal and two bronzes during the first day of the Asian Union Karate Organization (AUKO) championships in Singapore on Wednesday.

Antara reported the Indonesia women's kata team of Merani Mega, Fitria Mega and Trimurti Wulandara collected 41.5 points to win the silver medal. The Japanese team earned the gold with 42.8 points, while Malaysia finished third with a score of 41.1.

"We actually aimed to win a gold medal but it's really difficult to beat Japan, whose karatekas are one level above us. However, we are satisfied with a silver," said Merani.

The Indonesian men's kata team of Aswan Ali, Elias Tande and Wahyu Widayat took bronze with a score of 41.8. Japan finished first with 42.9 followed by Iran with 42.0.
