RI visitors to Hong Kong

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia has become an increasingly important market for Hong Kong's tourism industry in the last few years, said Penelope Byrne, Acting Manager of the Corporate Communications Department of the Hong Kong Tourist Association, here yesterday.

Miss Byrne told a media luncheon that although the Indonesian market is relatively smaller compared to other Southeast Asian countries, its rate of growth in the last two years has proved strongest.

"In 1992, the total number of Indonesian visitors to Hong Kong was 161,483. In 1993, the total increased by 8.6 percent to 175,337," she said, adding that total tourist arrivals in Hong Kong in 1993 reached 8.9 million.

During the media luncheon, Byrne also announced the appointment of Inke Maris & Associates as the HKTA public relations consultant in Indonesia, signaling its intention to increase promotional activities in the country.(vin)
