RI tourney attracts 8 nations

JAKARTA (JP): Eight countries have accepted invitations to take part in the Angsapura international basketball tournament in Medan, North Sumatra.

Japan, South Korea, Thailand, China, Taiwan, Singapore, Jordan and Malaysia have all agreed to participate in the October competition.

Ardjan Leo, the organizer, said in Medan yesterday that two Indonesian teams, from North Sumatra and the national SEA Games team, would also compete.

"The North Sumatra team will be selected from various clubs and will include two foreigners. It has not been decided which two foreigners will be in the team but we hope their participation will attract the audience," Ardjan was quoted by Antara as saying.

Tampubolon, head of the North Sumatra office of the Indonesian Basketball Association, said the tournament could be the best and biggest in Indonesia.

"The tournament will serve as a trial for Indonesian cagers before competing in the Jakarta Games later in October," Tampubolon said. (lnt)
