RI tops Asian wall climbing event

JAMBI: National wall climbers finished the overall champion in the International Asian Championship in Iran on Sept. 22-Sept. 23.

Chief of the National Wall Climbing Association (PB FPTI) Syahrir said here on Wednesday that the team of Etta, Evi, Galar and Abudzar took two gold and two silver.

They defeated athletes from South Korea, China, Hong Kong and Japan, with Etta taking gold in the women's general division and Evi winning silver in the speed class.

"In the men's division, Galar and Abudzar also won a gold and silver in the speed class," he was quoted as saying by Antara.

Wall climbing, first introduced in the country 17 years ago, became a medal sport at the National Games in 2000. -- JP
