RI to launch microcar

BANDUNG, West Java: State-owned aircraft manufacturer P.T. Dirgantara Indonesia announced on Wednesday that it would launch a microcar, to be known as the Gang Car, this year.

The Gang Car project manager, Rachmat Junaedi, said that the company had secured a license from the government to produce the mini car, which will have the capacity to carry two persons.

He said that the car would come on the market by the end of the year at the latest. The microcar, which uses a 125cc to 250 cc engine is designed to cope with overcrowded roads in big cities and appeal to people from the middle class.

Rachmat said that the car, which would be made of fiberglass, consumed only one liter for 40 kilometers and could travel at a maximum speed of 80 kilometer per hour.

The car is 1.1 meters in height and will be sold for Rp 20 million per unit. --JP
