RI to host APEC construction conference

JAKARTA: Indonesia will host an international conference
featuring building design, construction, construction management
and building maintenance in Bali on March 27 and 28.

Titled APEC Construction 2002, the conference will be attended
by some 300 participants from Asia-Pacific countries, including
Japan, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and Australia, and is
expected to be opened by President Megawati Soekarnoputri.

"Indonesia will promote innovative construction design
suitable for countries prone to natural disasters such as
earthquakes," conference organizing committee chairman Wiratman
Wangsadinata said on Thursday.

The two-day conference, jointly organized by the Ministry of
Settlement and Regional Infrastructure, the Jakarta-based
Tarumanegara University, the Surabaya-based Petra Christian
University, the Bandung Institute of Technology, and the Asian
Institute of Technology, will present about 70 papers delivered
by domestic and foreign experts. --JP
