RI to exhibit pithecanthropus

BANDUNG, West Java: Indonesia is taking part in a pithecanthropus exhibition in Tokyo, for which some 30 prehistoric human and animal fossils from the Bandung Museum of Geology will be flown to Japan.

Antara reported on Wednesday that the cargo will be crated by Indonesian and Japanese experts. Fachroel Aziz of the geological research and development center at the Directorate General of Geology and Mineral Resources said all the fossils, estimated to be 200 years to 2 million years old, will be packed into 28 crates.

The fossils include those of humans, elephant, buffalo, rhinoceros and turtle. The exhibition will be held from Sept. 6 to Nov. 24. Also taking part in it will be host Japan, the Netherlands and Malaysia.

All of the fossils, according to Fachroel, have been insured, US$2 million for each human fossil and $250,000 for each animal fossil. (swe)
