RI to compete in Putra Cup

JAKARTA (JP): Indonesia will be banking on its junior players
at the 38th Putra Cup Asia Pacific amateur team golf tournament
in St. Elena, the Philippines, from Nov. 5 to Nov. 8.

The Indonesian Golf Association has selected mainstays Denny
Supriadi, Sarmili, Suprapto and Jemin Saputra, who are expected
to emulate the feats of their predecessors led by Sukamdi.

Sukamdi took four individual titles and teamed up with
compatriots to collect five championship trophies between 1988
and 1995.

The junior quartet has been groomed for two months for the
event under tutelage of former leading golfer Gimin.

Malaysia, Thailand, Singapore, Hong Kong, Papua New Guinea,
Myanmar, Brunei Darussalam, Indonesia and host the Philippines
will compete in the annual event. (yan)
