RI team wins bridge congress

TANGERANG (JP): Indonesia Bridge Olympics team won the AIG Lippo PABF Congress 2000 in the open team event after beating Japan 138-96 IMP in the final at the Imperial Country Club at Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang, Saturday.

In the first 16 board of a total of 48, the Indonesia team -- Denny Sacul/Franky Karwur and Santje Panelewen/Robert Tobing -- easily won 34-19 IMP.

But in the second 16 board, Indonesia's Henky Lasut/Eddy manoppo and Panelewen/Tobing lost to Japanese players Shunsuke Morimura/Kenji Miyakuni and Yoshiyaki Nakamura/Yasuhiro Shimizu 15-33 IMP.

Antara reported in the third and fourth boards, the national team, being groomed for the upcoming Bridge Olympics in the Netherlands in September, put pressure on the Japanese team before winning 21-14 and 58-30 IMP respectively.

Another Japanese club Shimamura took the third place after beating Pattimura Pan Jakarta with a total IMP of 103-48. (yan)
