RI students set to win SEA title
JAKARTA (JP): The Indonesian team is plotting a coup against defending champion Thailand in the upcoming ASEAN Student Games to be staged in Bandar Sri Begawan from July 20 to July 26.
Secretary-general of the Indonesian Student Sports Body Ekodjatmiko Sukarso revealed his confidence of taking the overall title yesterday after learning that the biennial event will feature potential medal winning sports events for Indonesia, including pencak silat.
"There's no doubt that Indonesia reigns in pencak silat in Southeast Asia," he said. Thailand ruled the 1994 meet in Singapore with 52 gold, 34 silver and 16 bronze medals. Indonesia finished a distant second with 24 golds, 38 silvers and 33 bronzes. (yan)
